Social Media

Social media is always the area where most companies don’t understand. What is social media anyway? Why is it so important? How can something like Facebook or twitter help my business? These are just some of the questions we get everyday.

To answer the first question, social media is really any website where the majority of the content on that site is made by the members or users of the site. This is sometimes referred to as web 2.0.

The next question of why it’s so important is simple, for years the Internet was filled with websites, which were all made by the business owners. Basically these sites are full of information, which the company has written themselves detailing how great they are and why you should buy from them.

These days things have changed, the internet is full of sites like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube which are packed with peoples opinions and their own content. For this reason the search engines place a lot of authority on these sites. They believe that if someone recommends a website on their Facebook or twitter for example, that its going to be a much truer reflection of what that company is really like. At the end of the day anyone can put up a website and say how great they are, only the best companies though that actually provide a great service and make their customers happy will get referrals from on-line social sites.

The answer to the last question should be pretty obvious by now. Why can these types of sites help you grow your business?

Customer Interaction and Feedback:

They give you the means to personally talk to your customers and interact with them. It lets you see what other people are saying about your business, do they like your service? Is there something, which they are not so happy about? Lots of great information can be collected from these social sites.

Branding:

They also allow you to build a brand in your industry. Using a blog for example you are able to become an authority in your market. By providing regular good quality content which is interesting for people to read you will naturally attract people to your website without even trying.

Backlinks:

Backlinks to your website are essentially the most crucial part of search engine optimisation, they are the backbone or what decides where you will rank in the search engines. By providing good content which people want to read and enjoy they will naturally link to it on their Facebook or twitter etc which in turn gets you more backlinks, traffic, higher search engine rankings and ultimately more customers.

These are just a few of the many benefits which social media can have on your website.
